Re: Consolidation Proposal: ClearHealth, FreeMED a

| Wow,
That is propably the most lucid account of "how things work" that I have read in a long time. I can't think of something that you said that I do not agree with on some level.
I also agree that competition is healthy. However I would like to describe the competitive landscape as I see it.
I was a developer on FreeMED and David was a developer on OpenEMR. Although ClearHealth is a new codebase, it architecture and project management styles are in response to what David and I felt were problems with FreeMED and OpenEMR. However, both David and I owe much of our current understanding to these projects. The design of ClearHealth is intended to embrace the best of both projects, and to learn from thier mistakes.
I feel that there are somethings that are simply impossible to fix in FreeMED and OpenEMR without massive architecture changes. The response from the OpenEMR community has shown that many of the issues that David was frustrated with have been addressed. Further if they continue on their current path they could fix the major issues within the next six months. But it would be much less effort to simply move some functionality to ClearHealth where those things are fixed already.
So far the FreeMED community has been silent regarding the possibility of consolidation. And the OpenEMR community seems to be interested in Uversa proving itself as trustworthy before making any large changes. (which is reasonable) It looks like the release of the standalone FreeB will be an integral part of that trust earning process. That discussion is ongoing, so we shall see.
I hope consolidation of effort will be possible. Mostly because of the similar architectures between the projects. I want there to be competition too, but I would prefer those to come from projects that take advantage of different architectures, like OSCAR(Java), TORCH(python/zope), or the new VistAOffice(M)
