VistA Posted by K.S. Bhaskar on Thursday June 30, 2005 @ 01:28 AM
from the Nothing short of world dominaton with open source free software dept.
Editor's Note: the author has a short summary of waht this in the comments. Click Read More... to see it: OpenVistA VivA FOIA Gold 20050507 is now available here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/worldvista It combines the FOIA release from the VA's FTP site with GT.M V5.0-000.

Digg this article

To use it, download the file to a temporary directory, e.g., /Distrib/VistA/OpenVIstASemiVivAFOIAGold20050507.tgz. Then, as root:
cd /usr/local
tar zxvf /Distrib/VistA/OpenVIstASemiVivAFOIAGold20050507.tgz

To "install" a database, you can execute:
/usr/local/OpenVistA/visa --install <targetdir>
where <targetdir> is specified without a trailing slash. To "run" after installing a database, you can execute:
/usr/local/OpenVistA/vista --run <targetdir>

The above script requires that you have Xdialog (http://xdialog.dyns.net) installed on your system. One change from previous SemiVivA releases is that /usr/local/gtm and /usr/local/OpenVistA are symbolic links (e.g., gtm is a link to gtm_V5.0-000).

Please use it and either post or send me your comments. Thank you very much.

P.S. For OpenVistA VivA FOIA Gold 20050507, I am tempted to wait till Knoppix 4.0 becomes available. If you would like me to create it with Knoppix 3.9, and not wait till Knoppix 4.0 becomes available for download, please let me know. Thanx.

By way of explanation, an OpenVistA SemiVivA release is a ready to run package that combines a VistA release and a GT.M release. [VistA is the healthcare information system developed by the US Dept, of Veterans Affairs that is in the public domain; GT.M is an open source free software implementation of M (MUMPS) required by VistA. OpenVistA SemiVivA releases are intended for use on x86 GNU/Linux systems.]

The designation FOIA Gold 20050507 refers to the fact that this is a release of VistA as made available on May 7, 2005 on the VA's FTP site under the US Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), without any of the enhancements made by the VistA community added in (the so called "Gold Standard" VistA as released by the VA).
