FOSS Losing a Corporate Friend in Healthcare
Interesting Developments Posted by Timothy Cook on Wednesday June 09, 2010 @ 02:29 PM
from the Some things never change.... dept.
A short time back; many of us hoped that the healthcare IT market was shifting a little towards embracing open source. This was based mainly on the Misys Healthcare division looking for open source leadership.

But now .... Digg this article

"Misys, which created the Allscripts-Misys subsidiary in October 2008 through the merger of its healthcare business with Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, said it would focus on its banking software business."

The E-Health Insider article also states: "Health IT company Allscripts-Misys Healthcare Solutions has announced it will buy hospital software vendor Eclipsys Corporation in a $1.3 billion all-stock deal."

Hey Tim ... No loss of a corporate friend at all. In fact, I'd say the open source side of the industry has come out ahead. Misys Open Source Solutions ("MOSS") (Healthcare) has been retained by Misys plc so there is no change. (It was NOT part of the merger with Allscripts and Eclipsys). Our previously close affiliation with Allscripts actually confused the market. Now there is little confusion. MOSS needs to remain agnostic to the edge apps like Allscripts EHR. We will continue to push our open source HIE platform and promote OSS in healthcare. Be on the lookout for a press release before the end of the week on this to reinforce Misys' commitment to OSS in the health information exchange area.
