  Open source at medinfo2004
IMIA/AMIA Posted by Peter Murray on Thursday September 09, 2004 @ 07:03 PM
from the IMIA/AMIA dept.
The joint meeting of the IMIA, IMIA-NI and AMIA Open Source Working Groups was held yesterday, 8 September, at medinfo2004. We had a good attendance (40-50 people), with presentations on the 3 groups and then a discussion and session of interactive digital voting.

Tim Cook, myself, Graham Wright, Karl Oyri, Pat Evans were joined by Larry Ozeran, Will Ross, and many others for a lively discussion of open source issues and how things might be taken forward by the Working Groups.

A flavour of the event is at: www.differance-engine.net/medinfo2004blog/ and www.peter-murray.net/medinfo2004

There has definitely been a positive vibe around open source at MedInfo 2004. The work of people like Tim and Peter (and the many others promoting, using and championing open source in health care) has paved the way for newer people in the open source world (like me). There are a number of very interesting projects that were presented as part of the AMIA inaugural meeting and the various workshops and sessions. There are also many that are out there that were not presented - it would be great if people started to post those projects / ideas here to carry the excitement of MedInfo out to the rest of the Open Source community who couldn't attened. - Morgan UBC Department of Family Practice Lead Faculty, Informatics
